We’re hiring
CAD Engineer / SLicer / Model cutter
Do you want to help transform our fantastic fantasy miniatures from their original ZBrush format to the multiple parts they need to be for plastic manufacturing?
This year Squidmar Miniatures has already expanded with 3 new roles (sculptor, illustrator and project manager) to make it possible to create the projects of our dream. Now we are looking for one more critical hire to be part of the core team. We want to have a dedicated in-house full-time person that can work closely with our sculptors to transform the vision as presented by the digital sculpts of the complete figures into a format that can actually be produced in HIPS plastic.
During sculpting in ZBrush, each model will have been 3D printed many times to make sure they look great. But 3D printing is far from the same as actual plastic manufacturing. The model must be split into multiple parts. These parts must be possible to produce, fun to assemble and look good when assembled.
To fit in this role you need to understand the both the technical part of the job, and how the models will be assembled and painted.
Role description
As a cad engineer, you will:
Cut ZBrush models using Freeform Plus or similar software
Work closely with sculptors, not just get a finished digital sculpt to cut
Create the step by step assembly plan, and create the renders needed for the assembly instructions
Create renders for use on packaging and online to show the model
Create the Tooling Layout
Manage projects and your own time
We’re looking for someone who:
Has experience cutting 32mm miniatures specifically (not just general 3D).
Understands paintability and casting constraints
Can take feedback without ego
Has produced miniatures for plastic injection molding previously
